Meditation comes in many forms - Mindfulness, Zen, TM, Yoga and many other traditions and forms. But at the heart, it’s all the same practice: the essence is shared.
Zen in Ten is a series of four meditation sittings designed to support both newcomers and experienced practitioners.
Each session includes a 10-minute introduction to the principles that underpin our practice, offering simple insights into meditation and the ideas that have guided these practices for centuries.
Across the series, we’ll explore the foundations common to all meditation, developing equanimity: steadiness and balance in the face of pleasant, unpleasant or neutral experiences.
Breath & Awareness - anchoring attention and cultivating presence.
Non-Attachment - noticing clinging and aversion.
Impermanence - observing that all experiences arise and pass.
Non-Self - noticing the flow of experience without over-identifying with thoughts or emotions.
Even if you’ve been meditating for years, there’s value in returning to beginner’s mind. Shunryu Suzuki, a Japanese Zen master who helped bring Zen practice to the West, famously said: “In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert’s there are few.”
Every session is an opportunity to start fresh, notice something new and reconnect with the foundations of your practice.
Whether your meditation is Zen, yoga-based or another style - and whatever your level of experience - from newbie to zen master - this series invites you to (re)explore the principles which underpin our practice, to deepen awareness and find beauty in shared practice in a tranquil environment.
